Elder Dog Canada: Update from the St. John's PAWD
“The human-animal bond is perhaps stronger and more profound in late life than at any other age.” (Suthers-McCabe, 2001)
ElderDog Canada is a national, registered charitable organization dedicated to ageing people, ageing dogs, and the important relationship they enjoy.
ElderDog volunteers:
- Assist and support older adults in the care and well-being of their canine companions;
- Promote the welfare of older dogs whose lives have been disrupted due to illness, relocation or death of a human companion.
The NL branch of ElderDog Canada, ElderDog St. John’s Metro, is now up and running. This information session will be of interest to older adults, their families and care providers in learning how ElderDog can help them maintain this vital connection.
Gail Wideman is retired faculty from the School of Social Work and leader of ElderDog St. John’s Metro.
