Human Rights Policy available for a second round of consultation
Memorial University’s first-ever Human Rights Policy is now available on the Policy Office website.
We invite all members of the university community to review the draft policy and share your valuable feedback. The policy will remain open for feedback until November 6, 2025. Your voice is important to us, and we are committed to ensuring that the perspectives of the University Community are heard and reflected in this landmark policy. Work is currently ongoing for the establishment of Memorial’s first human rights policy. This policy will establish a clear and comprehensive framework for promoting and protecting human rights in the Memorial University communities.
The Human Rights Policy will operate in conjunction with, and where applicable, enhance the provisions in the university's existing commitments. The policy will also reflect Memorial’s responsibility and commitment to complying with federal and provincial human rights legislation.

October 2025

Approval of the draft human rights policy for Memorial by the President’s Executive Council (PEC).
January 2025
Onset of the 2nd draft period for Memorial’s first human rights policy.
December, 2024
The Office of the Vice-Provost hosted a Consultation Series on the Human Rights Policy Draft.
October, 2024
In accordance with the university's Policy Framework, the proposed Human Rights Policy opened for its first round of consultation. All members of the university community were invited to review the proposed policy and share their comments with the Policy Office by December 7, 2024.
November 2023
Beginning of consultation period with key internal stakeholders for the draft human rights policy.

Approval of the draft human rights policy for Memorial by the President’s Executive Council (PEC).

Submission of a New Policy Proposal.

Onset of draft period for Memorial’s first human rights policy.

Onset of ongoing meetings with internal and community stakeholders to gain insights into their work and explore opportunities for collaboration.

August 27, 2021
Dr. Delores V. Mullings, in a competitive process, was appointed as Memorial University’s first Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism, effective August 27, 2021, for a five-year term.
Late 2019
The position of a Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism was approved by the Board of Regents after a recommendation by Memorial’s Employment Equity and Diversity Plan.
