Emeritus and University Research Professors

The title Professor Emeritus is awarded to "highly distinguished retired members of the faculty of Memorial University of Newfoundland whose contributions to the University were substantially above the norm for their discipline." University Research Professor is "the most prestigious award the university gives for research, and goes to faculty who have demonstrated a consistently high level of scholarship, including graduate student supervision and other mentoring activities, and whose research is of a truly international stature." Five of our retired faculty members have been awarded the status of Professor Emeritus, and three are University Research Professors.
