Taxi service between St. John’s campus and the Department of Ocean Sciences
There will be a change in transportation services between St. John’s campus and the Department of Ocean Sciences for graduate students as of Sept. 5, 2023.
The Department of Ocean Sciences will implement a taxi service between St. John’s campus and the department. The existing shuttle service will end as of Sept. 1, 2023. The pick-up drop-off/location for the taxi service is lot 15 in front of Macpherson College quad and the Department of Ocean Sciences’ main parking lot in front of the bus shelter.
For the period Sept. 5 to Oct 6, 2023, Donna Inkpen, dinkpen@mun.ca will coordinate the taxi service , with a transition during the semester for the coordination of the service to graduate students. To avail of the taxi service, the following procedure must be used:
- For scheduling purposes a Google Form will be used; please contact Donna Inkpen, dinkpen@mun.ca, if you experience difficulties accessing the Google sheet.
- If you are a graduate student who will be using the taxi service, please complete your information on this Google file. For the week of Sept. 5, please submit your form(s) for your taxi service requirements by 3 p.m. on Sept. 1. For the following weeks, please ensure you have completed your form(s) by 3 p.m. on Friday of each week for the upcoming week.
- Based on the information received through the Google sheet the appropriate number of taxi vans will be ordered by Donna Inkpen to pick up the students registered for a specific ride. Jiffy Cabs, 709-722-2222, is our service provider.
- Once the ride is complete one of the riders will need to ask for a receipt and include the rider’s name, number of passengers in the vehicle (not including the driver), the date and time of the ride. No payment is required of the riders. Billing for the service will be done directly with the department.
The launch schedule and number of taxi runs for Monday-Friday is outlined below. Please note that as the semester progresses, this may change to better fit the needs of the graduate students.

*In the event of a university closure the taxi service will be suspended until the university re-opens.
The Department of Ocean Sciences and the Department of Sustainability and Climate Action will continue to work with graduate students towards sustainable transportation options. Please reach out with feedback.
