Discipline of Family Medicine

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Discipline of Family Medicine! Throughout our website you will read about our connections to the community and our commitment to health.

Our faculty, staff and medical learners are distributed throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nunavut and Nepal. All are dedicated to rural and remote medical education.

Given the broad scope of care offered by physicians in our specialty, medical learners gain first-hand experience across all clinical domains, both acute and chronic, and all stages of care, from preventive care to palliative care while working in multiple care settings in urban, rural and remote communities. We are proud of our training opportunities and our award-winning programs.

The discipline is also home to the Primary Healthcare Research Unit and the Centre for Rural Health Studies where members of our team conduct evidence-based research in primary care, rural health, and academic excellence.

Please reach out if you would like to learn more about our discipline!
