What is it? This is a semester-long, non-credit program to learn the process and craft of science writing for broad audiences.
Who is it for? This program is for Biology students (majors or minors, graduate or undergraduate) who are willing to make a commitment to attending meetings and one-on-one sessions, and to producing a piece of writing by the end of the semester.
How will it work? The group will meet 3-4 times per semester for a one-hour workshop about the process and craft of science writing. In addition, individuals will consult with the coordinator on their writing project fort-nightly, setting deadlines for milestones as appropriate.
Where will I get published? Publication is not guaranteed, but depends on the quality of the written work. Last year’s reporters published on the MUN Biology website, the PaddleNL Magazine Ebb and Flow. Other venues include the Gazette, the alumni newsletter, local and national society newsletters and websites, local media (e.g., CBC, Telegram).
How do I get involved? Admission is competitive. If you would like to join this writing team, please send a short cover letter explaining your interest in the program, along with a short sample (3 paragraphs max) of your writing (on any topic).
