Closures

Emergency closing information

Memorial University, with campuses in St. John’s and at Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, is a residential institution, so it is essential we maintain our operations and schedules, even when tasked with emergencies. In the event of severe weather or other emergencies, if Memorial has to cancel classes or to close, information will be made available as quickly as possible through a variety of communications vehicles.

Advisories for late openings and all-day closings will be issued by  7 a.m.  Early closings during the daytime will be announced at least one hour in advance.

Campus-wide closures

Campus-wide closures are shared via the MUN Safe app. Ensure you have your campus selected and your phone set to receive notifications from MUN Safe. Visit the MUN Safe website for more information, including how to download the app and ensure you have the current version.

When closures happen midway through the day, information is shared via MUN Safe as well as on the Gazette, mun.ca, social media (@MemorialU on Twitter and Memorial University on Facebook) and via Newsline email or MUN Safe email notifications. Sign up for MUN Safe email notifications here.

Find Grenfell Campus closure information here. Grenfell Campus notifies students, faculty and staff of closures through the MUN Safe app, as well as Twitter (@grenfellcampus), Facebook (@grenfellcampus) and MESSENGER.

The Marine Institute notifies students, faculty and staff of closures and cancellations on its website www.mi.mun.ca, as well as Twitter (@marineinstitute) and MI’s Facebook page.
