Implementation of a one-year policy review plan

Mar 2nd, 2026

A major policy initiative is underway at Memorial University to improve the status of administrative policy review.  As noted in the 2023 Auditor General’s Report, the majority of policies are not being updated in a timely manner, which may impact operations.

To address this, the Policy Office has developed a 12-month Policy Review Plan, which has been approved by the President’s Executive Committee. The plan will eliminate the significant backlog of policies currently past due for review under the University’s Policy Framework. The plan will also bring all policies into compliance with the Policy Framework and establish a sustainable review cycle going forward.

The review plan will support compliance with the Policy Framework, reduce long-term policy maintenance risk and leave Memorial with a more coherent, manageable and resilient policy environment.

The plan is intentionally designed to operate within the existing Framework and governance structures.

Key elements of the plan include policy inventory reductions (where appropriate), a streamlined review process, process flexibility, a pan university review task group and clear accountability through frequent reporting.

Policy sponsors and/or their designates will be contacted as their policies are reviewed.
