First-hand simulation experience leads to learning

First-year nursing students in the fast-track (FT) option of the bachelor of nursing program recently spent some quality time with Jason MUNSON in the new Cahill Nursing Simulation Room.

The introduction to Jason, the School of Nursing's brand-new pediatric mannequin, was part of their pediatric clinical rotation.

Meeting young Jason was the first-year FT student first experience with simulation.

"It's a little overwhelming at first, but the students learn a lot from simulation and find it beneficial," said Daisy Baldwin, an instructor in the Learning Resource Cengtre. "They are nervous but the experience helps them apply what tjhey've learned. And it's fun too!"

The Cahill Nursing Simulation Room was opened during the school's 50th anniversary celebrations last fall, thanks to a generous donation from Mrs. Doreen (Power) Cahill, an alumna from the Class of '79 and former nursing faculty member.

Over the years Mrs. Cahill has maintained a strong interest in nursing and nursing students.
