About Us

What’s FMIG?

Family Medicine Interest Groups (FMIGs) are run by medical students for medical students. Our goal is to increase exposure of Family Medicine during undergraduate medical training. We offer a variety of student activities to help increase awareness and understanding of the opportunities, roles and responsibilities within Family Medicine. Please see the events below to get involved.

A special thanks to the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) for funding and supporting our Procedures Day 2022.

Section of Medical Students (SOMS)

If you are a medical student member of the CFPC, the Section of Medical Students (SOMS) Council is your voice on matters related to Family Medicine and advocacy. The SOMS Council is a national committee of medical students established to be the voice of the student members of the CFPC and to link the College with medical students in each university across Canada. Two Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) representatives from each Canadian medical school serve as representatives on the SOMS Council. If you have an issue that you would like to discuss with SOMS, or a topic you would like to be discussed at the next SOMS Council meeting, please email your SOMS rep's Jasmine Eng (jenge@mun.ca) or Sarah Williams (sfbw64@mun,ca).  More information about SOMS!
