Per-Course Instructor Opportunity

 

The School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies at the Labrador Campus of Memorial University invites applications from individuals interested in teaching the following 6 credit hour undergraduate course in the Bachelor of Arctic and Subarctic Interdisciplinary Studies (BASIS) program in the Fall 2025 semester.  

Subject to budgetary restrictions and sufficient enrolments, appointments will be made on a course-by-course basis and will not entail any obligation to conduct research or to perform any administrative service for Memorial University. Appointments will be made in accordance with the provisions in the MUN-LUMUN Collective Agreement. Course design and evaluation methods for all courses will be in accordance with the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies regulations and the Memorial University Calendar.

Course Title: SASS 1001 Indigenous Governance in Labrador

Course Schedule: Fall 2025 (12 weeks) (days/times to be determined in consultation with successful candidate and the Dean)

Campus Location: Labrador Campus of Memorial University, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL

 

Course Description: SASS 1001 Indigenous Governance in Labrador (6 cr hr) provides opportunities to become familiar with traditional and modern forms of Indigenous governance and Peoples. Indigenous and local experts, knowledge keepers, and Elders will contribute to rich learning in areas of importance to Labrador Indigenous Peoples, and place-based learning activities will ensure students experience people, place, and culture in meaningful, culturally relevant ways. Through course materials and dialogue, students will strengthen critical reading and writing skills through engaged writing assignments on local, Indigenous governance.

 

Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s degree with a proven record of instructing at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to individuals who have taught courses related to Indigenous governance in Labrador, the long-term history of Innu and Inuit, Labrador lands, waters, and Peoples, the North, and/or Indigenous Peoples; who conduct research in Labrador; and who have relationships and connections with Labrador partners.

Salary: As per the MUN-LUMUN Collective Agreement
