Congratulations to Dr. John Jamieson – 2025 W.W. Hutchison Medal Recipient
We are proud to announce that Dr. John Jamieson, Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Marine Geology at Memorial University, has been awarded the 2025 W.W. Hutchison Medal by the Geological Association of Canada.
This prestigious award recognizes exceptional contributions to Canadian Earth Science by a young scientist. Dr. Jamieson is internationally acclaimed for his groundbreaking research on submarine hydrothermal systems, with a focus on their role in geochemical cycles, mineral resource potential, and ecological significance.
As a leader in ocean exploration and marine geoscience, Dr. Jamieson is pioneering the development and application of deep-sea technologies to study hydrothermal vents, marine habitats, and mineral resources. His work on stable and radiogenic isotope systems has made significant strides in quantifying metal fluxes in the ocean, deepening our understanding of mineral formation through Earth’s history.
Dr. Jamieson’s innovative methods and public engagement efforts have not only advanced marine research but also inspired a wider appreciation for the wonders of the deep sea. His contributions continue to elevate Canada’s role in international ocean science.
