General Degree Requirements

This section provides an overview of the key components and milestones involved in completing our graduate degree programs. Here, you'll find information on course offerings, the recommended timeline to degree completion, the Ph.D. comprehensive examination, thesis examination, and final submission process, as well as internships and employment opportunities. Graduate students are strongly encouraged to consult the Earth Science Graduate Student Handbook and the University Calendar for detailed and up-to-date information regarding all degree requirements.

M.Sc. and Ph.D students must complete a minimum of 6 credit hours in program courses. The courses are determined by your supervisory committee. Depending on background and/or area of specialization, a student may also be required to complete additional courses in Earth Sciences or related subjects.

All course requirements should be completed within one year from the date of first registration in the M.Sc. Degree program. A selection of courses will be offered to meet the requirements of students as far as the resources of the Department will allow.
