The Residence Energy Challenge is a two week competition for students living in residence to increase awareness about energy conservation and climate change. From Friday, February 28th to Friday, March 13, 2020, residents of Burton's Pond, Macpherson College and Paton College are taking part in a competition to reduce energy use and participate in energy conservation awareness activities. Energy Conservation Competition
a) Best Residence
The residence that reduces energy use the most during the two week competition, compared to a baseline period, will win this category. A prize of $500 will be awarded to the winner. The winner will also receive a plaque to display until next year. Note: The dates of the baseline period for measuring typical energy use are not known to residents.
b) Winter Carnival: Top Three Residences
During the Winter Carnival, energy use will be measured from noon on February 28th to noon on March 5th. The three residences who conserve the most will receive points for first, second and third place. More details are in the Winter Carnival Rulebook.
Participation: Best Residence
The residence which has the best participation including creating a video (required to to be eligible for participation award) and participating in activities shown on the schedule or other related activities will win this category. Prize is a catering certificate donated by Aramark. See schedule for activities .
To submit for participation points:
All photos and videos should be submitted to Sustainability Office Facebook or
firstname.lastname@example.org. Residence must be identified in submission to get points. All photos and videos will be reviewed prior to posting. Inappropriate content could result in disqualification. By submitting a photo or video, it is understood that participants have given permission for use by Memorial University and/or to post publicly.
Energy data will be posted daily on the Sustainability Office Facebook page starting Monday, March 2. Final results for energy conservation and participation will be posted after March 13.

Prizes were donated by TakeCHARGE NL. Cluett Hall chose a ping pong table and Squires House picked reusable water bottles.
