Procedure When a Student Accommodation Request Cannot be Arranged

Procedure

1. When the requested Accommodation cannot be arranged, the student, the appropriate campus coordinating centre and the appropriate Unit(s) should work collaboratively, and in a timely manner, toward a resolution.

2. If a resolution in favour of the requested Accommodation is reached, the decision must be communicated to the student, in writing (or other appropriate method) and the Accommodation should be implemented as soon as reasonably possible.

3. If a resolution in favour of the requested Accommodation is not reached:

a. In the case of a request for an Accommodation for a course, program or assignment, the student may continue to seek resolution by advancing the request through successively higher levels of authority including the applicable Vice-President. Decisions must be made in a timely manner and communicated to the student in writing (or other appropriate method). Any student whose request for Accommodation for a course, program or assignment has been denied at the level of the Vice-President, has the right to appeal in accordance with academic regulations in the University Calendars available at these links:

b. In the case of a request for other types of Accommodation, the student may continue to seek resolution by advancing the request through successively higher levels of authority, including: 

  • The Deputy Provost (Students) and Associate Vice-President (Academic) Undergraduate Studies at the St. John’s Campus;
  • The Registrar at Grenfell Campus;
  • The Associate Vice-President (Academic and Student Affairs) at the Marine Institute.

Decisions must be made in a timely manner, may include consultation with other appropriate Unit(s), and must be communicated to the student in writing (or other appropriate method).

4. Students are advised to consult with the appropriate campus co-ordinating centre and/or the appropriate Office of the Registrar or the School of Graduate Studies for assistance in any appeal process.
