Remembering Marie Jeanette Walsh: Educator, Scholar, and Preserver of Nursing History
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Marie Jeanette Walsh on February 20, a respected educator, scholar, and valued member of the Faculty of Nursing and the broader nursing community.
Jeanette committed her life to educating and guiding students, advancing nursing in Newfoundland and Labrador, and protecting the province’s professional heritage through careful research and archival work. Her thoughtfulness and generosity shaped the lives of many.
She authored and partnered on meaningful publications, including From the Voices of Nurses and Come From Away: Nurses Who Immigrated to Newfoundland and Labrador, drawing on oral histories and extensive research to capture the lived experiences of those who shaped health care in our communities.
Her legacy continues to influence students, faculty, and researchers at Memorial University and beyond.
We are grateful for Jeanette’s many contributions and will remember her with great respect.
