Nunavut Arctic College Partnership

In 2019, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Nunavut Arctic College entered into a historic 10-year partnership on higher education. The goals of the partnership include cultivating, supporting and delivering shared degree programs focused on learners, promoting institutional collaboration, supporting leadership development, and increasing student accessibility to post-secondary education opportunities in Nunavut through joint credentials. Two professional degree programs, B.Ed. and B.SW., are successfully underway.

Memorial University and Nunavut Arctic College work closely to ensure that Nunavut students are supported by both institutions and experience academic success. They collaborate on academics, administration, and student support. Furthermore, the Partnership recognizes the importance and relevance of Inuit language, values and culture in the creation and delivery of post-secondary programs of study offered to Nunavut students.

There are other areas that the Partnership covers in addition to the Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Social Work Programs. The Marine Institute and Nunavut Arctic College have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which establishes an understanding between the two educational institutions, as it pertains to providing fisheries and marine training in Nunavut.  The majority of this training is arranged in cooperation with the Nunavut Fisheries and Marine Training Consortium.

Memorial’s Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) is instrumental in the Partnership as well, providing dedicated support for NAC’s use of the Brightspace Learning Management System.

Today, the relationship between Memorial University and Nunavut Arctic College continues to evolve and expand as both educational institutions explore ways to create more opportunities for Nunavut learners.
