C-RISE Members Travel to India

A delegation from Memorial University, comprised of 5 C-RISE members, travelled to India in November to promote the graduate program at Memorial, develop research collaborations, and to attend the UPES International conference on Advances in the Field of Health, Safety, Fire, Environment, Allied Sciences & Engineering in Dehradun.

At the conference, Dr. Faisal Khan was awarded the status of Guest of Honor, and C-RISE supporter and student Mr. Howard Pike was honored as Chief Guest. C-RISE students Shams Anwar (PhD student), Md. Alauddin (PhD student), and M. Zaid Kamil (M. Eng student) attended and presented their research at the conference. According to the students, the event was an excellent opportunity to make connections and to share knowledge about their research in Safety and Risk.

In addition to the conference, Dr. Khan travelled to a number of universities with Mr. Andrew Kim (Director of Graduate Enrollment, MUN) and Jinghua Nie (Manager of International Programs, FEAS, MUN). At Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), they met with the Dean of Engineering, professors and officials in the School of Chemical Engineering to discus collaboration potentials. Other meetings took place at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) in Pilani, and the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). An education fair was also arranged in Delhi and partnered with local agencies. The aim was to share information about Memorials programs.

Overall, it was a very productive and outcome-oriented trip. New partnerships were established and opportunities developed for research collaborations. The universities visited agreed to promote Memorial graduate programs on campus and to develop student mobility initiatives.
