Call for Submissions

The period for submissions is now open and will close Thursday, January 29th, 2026.

Theme: EDI-AR Environmental Sustainability

The Office of the Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-AR) is now accepting proposal submissions to present at Memorial University’s 2026 International EDI-AR Conference scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2026, in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The 2026 International EDI-AR Conference will bring together students, staff, researchers, faculty, community leaders and industry professionals from around the world to share success stories and achievements. Participants will learn from each other about innovative and creative ways to design and implement environmentally sustainable and equity-focused programs and policies in post-secondary institutions, community groups, industry, associations, and not-for-profit agencies.

This year’s conference theme is EDI-AR Environmental Sustainability. We are particularly interested in submissions in the following categories.

Themes:

1. Ethical Research at the Intersection of EDI-AR and Environmental Sustainability
2. Sustainable Policy and Practice for Just Societies
3. Sustainability Education and Climate Justice Training
4. Community Building for Climate Justice and Belonging
5. Institutional Capacity for Equitable and Sustainable Systems Change
6. Strategic Planning for Environmentally Sustainable and Inclusive Institutions

The following presentation styles are the only four options for conference submissions:

(1) Panel discussion (Groups of 4, 15 minutes per speaker) – introduce a topic related to the conference theme, and guide participants in a conversation where ideas and experiences related to the topic can be shared (e.g. Research and Ethics, Policy, and Education, etc.)

(2) Presentation (20 minutes) – an oral presentation on a topic related to the conference theme. Presenter(s) should consider time for Q&A as part of the presentation.

(3) Poster display (30 minutes) – provide a platform to network with presenters and discuss their posters, which are focused on a specific topic related to the conference theme.

(4) Workshop (45 minutes) – an interactive session where participants can expect to be actively engaged. The workshop should focus on skill(s) that demonstrate how participants can showcase EDI-AR Environmental Sustainability. Submissions should clearly describe the skill(s) being shown or taught.
