International Bachelor of Arts

The International Bachelor of Arts in Economics is a specialized program that prepares students for a future as international and monetary economists and who want to apply this knowledge as global citizens.

As with the Bachelor of Arts, this program offers students a strong foundation in theory and analysis while encouraging exploration of the broader contexts in which economic activity takes place. However, it differs in that the program is designed for students who are interested in the study of global dynamics and worldwide issues. The program’s objectives are to provide knowledge and analytical skills essential for research and work on an international scale.

This program requires additional designated international studies courses and language study courses relative to the Bachelor of Arts. You are also required to reside outside of Canada for a period of time (at least 12 weeks) during the program by participating in a Memorial field school or studying at a non-Canadian institution, or by participating in an international work placement outside of Canada.

How to Apply?

New and Prospective Students to Memorial

You may apply for admission to the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences by indicating International Bachelor of Arts as your program choice on the undergraduate application for admission.

You are encouraged to choose economics as your major at the time of submitting your application. However, you may also explore your options and declare a major in economics in a later semester to make your choice official.

Direct entry into the faculty is subject to your meeting the general admission requirements for Memorial University.

Current Students at Memorial

You may declare economics as your major at any time. Simply fill out a Declaration/Change of Academic Program form to make your choice official.

Declaring early helps ensure course selection aligns with program requirements, improves access to courses reserved for economics majors, and reduces the risk of delayed graduation.
