Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism

Through effective leadership, a clear vision and collaborative efforts, the Office of the Vice-Provost, EDI-AR champions Memorial University's commitment to advancing institutional equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism goals.

Our Vision

The EDI-AR Office is dedicated to cultivating a university atmosphere in which human rights are honoured and equity is integrated into all aspects of academic, professional, and campus life. We envision a university environment where everyone feels valued, welcomed, respected and sees a reflection of who they are embedded in all areas of Memorial.

Our Mission

To transform Memorial into a leading EDI-AR institution among Canadian universities and beyond. We aim to actively engage both the local and global communities in meaningful dialogue and action. Learn more about our Mandate.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that the lands on which Memorial University’s campuses are situated are in the traditional territories of diverse Indigenous groups, and we acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit of this province.

Labour Acknowledgement

We acknowledge the labour theft extracted from people of African descent and used to build European wealth and economies globally and in the Canadian nation state—including Newfoundland and Labrador’s shipbuilding and cod fishery industries—through the violence of trans-Atlantic enslavement.

The portfolio of the Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-AR) is an important reflection of Memorial University's commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism across our campuses and in our communities. This site informs Memorial University communities of our ongoing work, and shares relevant resources and information about EDI-AR at Memorial.
