Labrador Institute suspends travel

As a Division of Memorial University, the Labrador Institute is closely monitoring development related to COVID-19, and following Memorial University’s protocols, advisories, and recommendations for COVID-19 emergency response planning, as outlined by the Pandemic Preparedness Committee and related sub-committees, including suspending all work-related travel outside of the Province, and gatherings over 25 people.
However, in light of our obligations to people and communities in Labrador, and recognizing the unique geographic and healthcare-related challenges in the region, effective immediately, the Labrador Institute:
- is suspending all university-related travel for Labrador Institute staff, faculty, and students out of the region, until further notice;
- is suspending all university-related travel for Labrador Institute staff, faculty, and students to any remote communities in Labrador, including the North and South Coast, until further notice;
- is suspending all university-related travel for staff, faculty, students, and researchers coming to Labrador to work with Labrador Institute staff and faculty;
- will require all staff to self-quarantine for 2 weeks upon returning from travel for which they are already on, and follow steps to ensure their health and safety, and that of those around them.
- will be cancelling all gatherings and meetings, until further notice.
The Labrador Institute will also be supporting and abiding by any travel advisories or suspensions placed by the NunatuKavut Community Council, the Nunatsiavut Government, and the Innu Nation.
The situation is rapidly evolving and information will be shared regularly, and as new information and protocols evolve.
