Organization Description: The YMCA has been part of life in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1854. Our charity’s core programs of Health, Fitness, and Aquatics; Child Care and Day Camp; and Employment, Enterprise, and Newcomer Services are offered at more than 20 locations in our communities with an additional 170 points of delivery throughout the province. Our focus on inclusiveness and accessibility means we serve people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through all stages of life.

Volunteer Activities/Duties: The Media Mentors programming is for youth ages 15-30 seeking to provide assistance to seniors in their communities in helping with technology. The program is completely what the youth want to make it to be, we provide guidance and the framework but it is up to the student what their individual Media Mentor journey will look like. Assisting seniors can be helping them with their cell phones, email address, working their car radio, home systems, appliances, etc. There are also additional life skill building workshops offered by the YMCA.

Commitment: There is a 12 month commitment, and within those 12 months the volunteers must complete 120 hours.

Orientation and Training: There are training modules that each volunteer must complete. Each training module is about 1 hour.

Other Requirements: Code of Conduct, Vulnerability Sector Check
