Participants in the VIP will enter at the Bronze level, and ascend through Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The program is designed for volunteerism and self-awareness, as each participant progresses through their university careers. There are three core pillars of the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP), GIVE, GROW, and GAIN. They represent the core requirements of the program: Volunteer Service, Career Development, and Self-Awareness.

What is the Personal Development requirement?
Any activity can be considered professional development as long as you are learning something that will help you grow and develop in some way. The person facilitating the session must also have some level of expertise in the subject.

What Professional Development activities do you recommend?
This requirement can be fulfilled in many ways! For example, training sessions within your remote volunteer organization are more than acceptable. The SVB also holds SkillShare sessions that you can attend. The main focus of the PD is that you are able to learn and develop new skills; Thus, look for one that interests you the most! You can find available PD sessions here. We also have a weekly email listserv that you can subscribe to receive weekly PD opportunities. Just email us at svb@mun.ca and ask us to subscribe you!

How do I attend a ThinkTank?
All ThinkTanks will be happening online and in person! A link will be made available for the various sessions and you would need to attend the ThinkTank applicable to your level. These links will be sent to you by email upon the release of the ThinkTank schedule.

When is the ThinkTank schedule for Winter going to be released?
The Think Tank schedule will be released once the registration is closed.

What counts as a leadership development activity?
For this requirement of the Gold level, we are looking for participants to take on a role that would require them to develop -- and put in practice -- a set of leadership skills that they may have already started working on in the previous two levels. We also are looking for ways for students to become more involved and engaged with any group of their choice.

What are some ways to fulfill the leadership development activity?
Some examples of leadership development activity are, Make Midterm Matter Lead, On the executive team for a club, society, resource center or community group, Memorial Ambassador, SVB Volunteer Assistant, Operation Lead for Welcome Week, Event Lead for a particular event (or series of events) in residence, etc.. If you are unsure if your activity would count towards leadership development, please chat with us about your opportunity!

I cannot get a signature from my volunteer organization on my VIP forms. What do I do?
If you are unable to get a signature please note this and make sure while filling out your forms, we require you to submit the organization’s contact information so that we can verify those hours with them.

What happens if I am unable to meet the VIP requirements?
We at the SVB understand that some academic or nonacademic commitments take precedence over the Volunteer Incentive Program. If you are unable to complete the requirements, no worries! You are more than welcome to reapply for your VIP level during the following semester.
