CANCLELLED! Mistaken Point Fossil Tour
Memorial University's Johnson Geo Centre is excited to invite you on a road trip to explore the Mistaken Point UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fossil tour will be led by our science interpreter, and paleontologist Dr. Rod Taylor, known fondly as @FossilRod. With his vast knowledge of Ediacaran fossils in our province, and his engaging approach to sharing that knowledge, we know you'll have an experience you won't soon forget!
Tour Date: Friday, July 24, 2026
Depart from: Johnson Geo Centre, 175 Signal Hill Rd., St. John's
Departure time: 9:30am
Arrive back at Johnson Geo Centre: 6:00pm
Tour Cost: $175 +HST per person
Tour Cost includes bus transportation to and from Mistaken Point, tour, interpretation, and a picnic lunch and snacks.

Safety Requirements:

Guests must be physically capable of hiking 6 km round-trip over uneven terrain, hills, and inclines.

Closed-toe footwear is mandatory: hiking boots or sturdy sneakers/runners only.

No sandals, hiking sandals, crocs, water shoes, or any open-toed footwear allowed.

Guests must bring weather-appropriate clothing (rain gear, warm layers) and be prepared for cooler coastal conditions.

Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and extra socks (footwear must be removed before stepping onto the fossil surfaces).

Anyone with health concerns (heart, breathing, allergy, vertigo, or mobility issues) should speak with staff before joining the hike.

Staff may refuse participation if a guest is not properly prepared, not physically capable, or displays disrespectful or unsafe behaviour.
