Current Research Projects

  • The Story of Mary Webb: Mi'kmaq Midwife (Working Title)
  • Working with the Qalipu Cultural Foundation and Qalipu First Nation, Dr. Skidmore will research and write a play on Mary Webb (1881-1978), an important historical figure in Mi’kmaq history, who performed as a midwife, and was a significant culture-bringer in Newfoundland and
  • Labrador Mi’kmaq history. The Story of Mary Webb: Mi'kmaq Midwife (Working Title) will tell positive and important Mi'kmaq stories to the Mi'kmaq community, and to the larger Newfoundland and Labrador communities, and beyond. The play will be staged and tour
  • Mi’kmaq communities, NL theatre festivals, and as many schools across the province as possible, in order to disseminate information on Mary Webb and various Mi’kmaq cultural practices, such as midwifery, healing, language, traditional knowledge, and traditional skills.
