Seeking PhD Students Working on Comics

Funding opportunity: Dr. Nancy Pedri is seeking PhD students working on comics! (deadline: October 1, 2017)

"I am seeking PhD students who are interested in working on comics, especially graphic memoir. Having secured SSHRC funding for a project on the use of photography in graphic memoir, I aim to hire two graduate students on a stipend that will top up the standard graduate student funding for four years. Students will also receive some subsidized travel to conferences and be given the opportunity to co-author work with me.

Memorial University of Newfoundland is well equipped to supervise students who wish to work in Comics Studies. The English Department has two professors doing research in the field and offers several courses in comics at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The French Department also has a professor conducting research in comics.

Full-time graduate students in the Department of English at Memorial University of Newfoundland qualify for fellowship funding (expected funding approx. PhD $13,500 / year). To qualify for funding, students must have held a 75% average in the last 20 courses of their latest degree. In addition to this ‘free’ funding, graduate students have the opportunity to be employed as Graduate Assistants and teaching fellows (approx. $5,000). Tuition at MUN is the lowest in Canada outside of Quebec.

Deadline for applications to the graduate program in the Department of English is October 1, 2017 for a January 2018 admission and January 15, 2018 for a September 2018 admission. Please visit our website for application information (http://www.mun.ca/english/programs/graduate/apply.php).

All interested applicants, please contact Nancy Pedri at npedri@mun.ca."
