Use of assistive technology in workspaces, learning and assessment environments

This policy applies to all courses and programs in Computer Science, at graduate and undergraduate level.
Smart Glasses

Students are not permitted to wear or use smart glasses in any:

  1. exam, test or quiz,
  2. classroom, lab or exam environment,
  3. interaction with faculty and staff, including office hours and meetings.

Smart glasses include eyewear capable of any features such as video capture, audio capture, video display or audio output.

Headphones, Smart Phones and Other Devices

Students are not permitted to wear or use headphones, smart phones and other personal computing and media devices during any exam, test or quiz.

Prior to an exam, test or quiz you may be asked to demonstrate that you are not wearing or using any of these devices. Where such a device is brought into a testing environment you must place it on the desk in front of you in clear view and out-of-use.

You may be asked to briefly show your ears to demonstrate that you are not wearing headphones. If the check needs to be made in a private setting then you need to inform the course instructor before the date of the exam, test or quiz.

Some classroom and testing environments may have further restriction on use of technology, such as use of calculators in exams.

It is your responsibility to make yourself aware of all such restrictions and to seek clarification where unsure.
