April and May News
The Biochemistry Society had to cancel their end of year formal dinner and dance due to weather and instead held a cocktail party in the Feltham Room on Friday, April 7th. The event was very well received, the room was transformed, and a good time was had by all.
Three students were successful in receiving placements in Biochemistry’s research labs under the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) Program. The Dean of Science also approved three students under the Science Undergraduate Research Award (SURA) Program and two students received the Undergraduate Student Summer Internship Program (USSIP) award. MUCEP funding was recently announced and Biochemistry had 54 positions funded for 2017-18.
Plans continue for the Biochemistry 50th Anniversary celebrations taking place from Friday, September 8 – Sunday, September 10, 2017. Registration for the event is now open – to find out more about the event and to register visit http://www.mun.ca/mundays/events/reunion_biochemistry.php
We had another new Master of Science graduate student join the department in the Spring semester, Sofian Atia is supervised by Dr. Shahidi.
