Memorial University's 100th Anniversary
Memorial University is pleased to welcome the 2025 Canada Games to its St. John's Campus in its 100th Anniversary year.
Memorial University College opened its campus on Parade Street in September 1925 and so 2025 will mark our 100th anniversary as an institution. As Newfoundland and Labrador’s university, Memorial has a special obligation to the people of this province. Established as a memorial to the Newfoundlanders who lost their lives during active service in the First World War and subsequent conflicts, Memorial University serves to honour that great sacrifice through educating the people of this province.
For 100 years, Memorial University has been transforming the lives of individuals and their communities through higher education, cultivating generations of exceptional talent whose innovations have fueled the future. As we look back on our first century of excellence, Memorial aspires towards an ever-brighter future, as outlined in our strategic plan, Transforming Our Horizons.
This is a significant milestone for the university, and we plan to celebrate in many ways, one of which will be to highlight the historic and cultural importance of the university to the province as a whole. As such, we are looking to partner with the entire university community to help shape the celebrations, which will kick off in early in 2025 and wrap up in conjunction with Spring Convocation 2026.
We look forward to sharing Memorial University's 100th Anniversary programming with our Canada Games visitors in 2025. A schedule of programmming will be available in fall 2024.
