Memorial University 100

Memorial University College opened its doors in 1925 to a class of 57 students. A humble beginning. But a beginning with boundless ambition.

100 years later, Memorial University is one of Canada’s top comprehensive universities with 19,000 students and over 100,000 alumni. And with all of our success at home and abroad, we remain dedicated to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Because that’s our inspiration.

Looking Back, Launching Forth

We were founded to honour the sacrifices of the past with the promise of a brighter tomorrow. And our anniversary theme – “Looking Back, Launching Forth” – pays homage to that original vision. The phrase was inspired by our university motto, “Launch forth into the deep.” That’s our way of showing the pride we have in our past and our enthusiasm for what comes next.

If you’re ready to launch forth with us, learn how you can get involved with our centennial celebrations.
