Student Supports and Services Updates
Memorial University is a proud partner of the 2025 Canada Games, running from Aug. 8-25. 2025.
During the Games, St. John’s campus will continue to support students but encourages students to plan ahead when visiting campus.
Students may experience increased traffic, reduced parking and temporary changes to the level of in-person services. If seeking an in-person appointment with a service provider, students are encouraged to reach out to confirm hours and in-person availability before coming to campus.

The Registrar’s Office main counter, located in A2003, will be open during this time with limited resources. Should you need to be on campus to visit the Registrar’s Office, we encourage you to email registrar@mun.ca beforehand to ensure that your inquiry can be handled appropriately.
If you are seeking academic advice, please email advice@mun.ca as the Academic Advising Centre staff will be working remotely and offering virtual appointments only during this time.

The Cashier’s Office will remain open for in person service. Anticipate traffic congestion and parking availability challenges if coming to St. John’s Campus.

- The Student Wellness and Counseling Centre (SWCC) will continue to operate alongside the 2025 Canada Games polyclinic operations. Remote service options are available. Students may wish to reach out the SWCC before coming to campus.
- Blundon Centre appointments will be encouraged to be held remotely, however, in-person appointments will be available upon request.
- Student Life offices on the 4th Floor of the University Centre will be open.
- The Student Experience Office will remain open, but most services will be offered remotely.
Students and prospective students will not be able to access or tour Memorial University St. John's campus student residences until after the completion of the Canada Games. Students confirmed for housing in Fall 2025 are able to move in on September 7, 2025.
Games Village accommodations will not restrict entry to Baltimore or Cabot Court

The Bookstore located in the University Centre will remain open with extended hours during the Games. For more information, visit here.
All libraries within the QEII system located on St. John’s campus such as those in Education, Health Sciences Centre, and Music, as well as collections found within the Centre for Newfoundland Studies and the Archives and Special Collections will remain open. Library patrons are advised to get dropped off or use public transportation due to increased traffic and campus density.
Due to its location in the heart the athlete accommodations, the Internationalization Office team will provide its services remotely during the Games and pause social programming during this period. To contact the office or make a virtual appointment, visit here.
The Works (Aquarena, MUN Pool and Field House) will be closed to the public to accommodate Canada Games preparations and competitions from August 4 – 26, 2025. For more information, visit here. Students will not be charged the recreation fee for this period of closure.
Service is expected to be provided in a hybrid fashion; please reach out to the School of Graduate Studies for more information about hours and in-person service before coming to campus. Due to use of Beatrice Watts Boardroom by the Canada Games, thesis defence will be remote during the Games period.
- During the Games, the University Food Court, Tim Horton’s in the Arts & Administration Building and the Engineering Building Food Court are expected to hold extended hours. - As food and beverage provider for the athletes, coaches and managers living in residence, Aramark will be unable to offer catering services during the Games
- The Breezeway will be rented by the Canada Games for the duration of the Games and will be closed to the public. The Attic and other MUNSU services are anticipated to operate business as usual. For more information, contact MUNSU.
- No interruptions to Animal Care and Veterinary Resources (ACVR).
- Technical Services offerings remain unchanged but movement of large pieces of equipment on campus during Games may be delayed due to the influx of pedestrian traffic. Technical Services is supporting OCIO and FM during the Games and may have a delayed response time to non-emergent requests.
- Lab deliveries are expected to continue but increased local traffic may result in delays.
- The pre-award functions of RIS will continue with but with reduced storefront staffing in the main office suite within the Bruneau Centre.Post-award administration of major research projects will be conducted remotely where possible during August.
- It is anticipated that members The Office of the Vice-President (Research) will work remotely during the Games. It is advised that you confirm availability with a member of office before coming to campus to seek their assistance.
- CREAIT will continue as per usual in labs located in the Core Science Facility and Alexander Murray Building.
- Travel to and from research labs located at the Ocean Sciences Centre may be impacted on August 12 and 13 due to a planned Canada Games cycling event. See more here.
Memorial’s Child Care Centre will close from August 11 – 22, 2025. This is a regular annual closure period for the Centre.
- Frequently-used student study areas such as SN-1107, ED-1008 and CSF-2220 will be closed from August 6-27, 2025.
- Games Village accommodations will not restrict entry to Memorial’s Campus Food Bank.
- The Student Financial Services Division located in Coughlan College will remain open for regular business hours during the Games with a limited number of staff onsite. Student aid officials are available to answer your questions via studentaidenquiry@gov.nl.ca . Documents can be submitted via studentaidmailbox@gov.nl.ca.
- Metrobus routes to stops surrounding the St. John's campus will continue.
