EIX bookings contribute to activities supporting student innovation and entrepreneurship

Did you know that booking a conference or event at Signal Hill Campuses’ Emera Innovation Exchange (EIX) gives back to Memorial University students? When the Battery Hotel was purchased and converted into Signal Hill Campus’ first building (the EIX), a $7 million contribution from Emera Inc. was received and a unique funding model was created.

Both the contribution and funding model provides an opportunity for Memorial University to allocate a portion of the revenues from EIX conference services to support programs and activities associated with student entrepreneurship and innovation.

Thanks to the support of Emera Inc., a total of $400K is dispersed annually to a variety of groups throughout the University. Recipients and dollar allocations are determined by Memorial’s Innovation Steering Committee chaired by Dr. Neil Bose, Vice President (Research). Previous recipients include the Centre for Social Enterprise, Genesis, Grenfell Research and Innovation Centre Project and Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship. Contact the team at Memorial’s Conference and Event Services by emailing meet@mun.ca to book space at the EIX and help support our future innovators and entrepreneurs!
