DATE: April 20, 2017

As part of its 40th anniversary, Canadian gardening will be the featured topic of an upcoming special presentation at Memorial University’s Botanical Garden. Well-known gardening expert Owen Reeves will present on Sunday, May 7, at 2 p.m.

The presentation kicks off International Compost Awareness Week (May 7-13). The annual event which brings awareness to the important role organics recycling and compost use plays to address a broad range of environmental and local job issues,  including waste diversion, greenhouse gas reductions, water conservation and healthy, productive soils.

“We are so delighted to be partnering with fellow botanical gardens and the Compost Council of Canada to celebrate the joys of Canadian gardening in this way,” said Kim Shipp, director, Memorial University Botanical Garden. “In this milestone anniversary year of Canada’s 150th, this event connects us with gardens across Canada, well as helps us provide a very inspiring event for our local gardeners to enjoy. We look forward to having Owen Reeves’ presentation, as well as having him visit our gardens that unequivocally have benefited from the year-over-year addition of compost to make “our Rock” a welcoming place to grow.”

The tour is being supported by Premier Tech and BIOMAX® CQA-certified compost. Along with admission to the presentation, each attendee will receive a reusable bag courtesy of CQA-certified BIOMAX, as well as a magazine from Harrowsmith.

Tickets are $20 and may be ordered in advance by visiting here. Proceeds from the event will be directed to Memorial University Botanical Garden.
