SUBJECT: Forum sponsored by Memorial's Global Health Office looks at challenges of sustainable fisheries in the global and local context

On Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Foran Green Room, St. John’s City Hall, there will be a discussion on sustaining resources in a number of contexts around the world. The forum starts at 1 p.m. with a documentary screening and discussion of Murky Waters: Investigating the Environmental and Social Impact of Shrimp Farming in Bangladesh.

From 2-4 p.m. there will be a panel discussion featuring guest speaker Khushi Kabir of the Nijera Kori in Bangladesh (We Do It Ourselves). Local guest speakers are Joseph Wroblewski, Department of Ocean Sciences at Memorial; Sharmane Allen, a PhD candidate in geography at Memorial; and Tom Best, Petty Harbour Fisheries Co-operative Society.

The forum is sponsored by the Social Justice Co-op, the Global Health Office at Memorial’s Faculty of Medicine and Inter Pares.
