SUBJECT: Virtual launch of new research centre to help injured, ill and impaired workers stay in the job market

Media representatives are invited to attend the virtual launch of the national Centre for Research on Work Disability Policy (CRWDP) on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 1:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Genesis Boardroom, third floor, Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation, St. John’s campus. The launch is taking place at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont., with video links in Vancouver, Quebec City and St. John’s.
Seven Memorial University researchers are co-investigators in this research centre aimed at improving Canadian work disability policy to help all people access employment. According to Statistics Canada, about 2.3 million people in Canada between the ages of 15 and 64—representing one in 10 working-age Canadians—reported in 2012 that they were sometimes or often limited in their daily activity due to a long-lasting health impairment.
David C. Onley, lieutenant-governor of Ontario, Brent Herbert-Copely, vice-president of research capacity, SSHRC, and Marie Ryan, disability advocate, are among the featured speakers at this virtual event.
