SUBJECT: PSA: International Development Week at Memorial University features keynote address by Hugh Evans, CEO of the Global Poverty Project

Memorial University’s International Centre presents Hugh Evans, CEO of the New York branch of The Global Poverty Project, speaking on 1.4 Billion Reasons. In this 90-minute presentation Mr. Evans will clearly articulate the facts of extreme poverty and demonstrate that by making simple changes everyone can be part of the solution. The presentation will take place in the Inco Innovation Theatre from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Free parking will be available in Lot 16 and 16A and all are welcome to attend.
Hugh Evans is 27 years old and has already earned an enviable reputation as an international humanitarian. He was a 14-year-old Australian schoolboy when he began his humanitarian work, travelling to the Philippines as an ambassador for World Vision. After completing high school in 2001, he deferred university to become World Vision's inaugural youth ambassador.
Mr. Evans was one of the key leaders behind the successful Make Poverty History campaign which included running Melbourne’s Make Poverty History concert in 2006 which involved major Australian artists as well as Bono of U2. He has been awarded Young Australian of the Year, Junior Chamber Young Person of the World Award and Free Your Mind award. Mr. Evans is the founder and director of the Global Poverty Project, a slideshow presentation and film that will communicate the realities for extreme poverty and what we can do about it.
