DATE: February 4, 2010

Memorial University of Newfoundland is awarding $10,000 again this year to the top ranter. The fourth annual Rant Like Rick student recruitment campaign officially launched today.
Based on the concept of Rick Mercer’s rant component of his show The Rick Mercer Report, the contest asks high school student to develop and film their own rant about a topic that is important to them. In addition to the grand prize of $10,000 to the first-place winner, two runner-up prizes of a $2,550 tuition voucher will also be awarded.
“Last year, the Rant Like Rick student recruitment campaign was extremely successful in reaching out to students across the province and the country,” said Shona Perry-Maidment, director of the Office of Student Recruitment. “We have seen some outstanding entries in the past and with a prize value of $10,000, we will continue to see more talent and creativity in our entries. And these ingenious, independent students are the type of students that we are trying to attract here at Memorial.”
Rant Like Rick is open to Grade 11 and 12 students currently enrolled in high school and who will be eligible to attend Memorial University in September 2010 or 2011. The deadline for entries is Friday, March 19, 2010. For more information on how to enter, including detailed rules and regulations, visit www.mun.ca/rant.
