SUBJECT: Dr. Paul Curran of Bournemouth University to be guest speaker at Wessex

The Marine Institute will host the Wessex Society public meeting on July 24 at 8 p.m. in Hampton Hall at the Ridge Road campus. Media are invited to attend. 
The meeting will feature guest speaker Dr. Paul Curran from Bournemouth University, Dorset, U.K. The topic of his lecture will be Bournemouth University and the historical links between Dorset and Newfoundland.
Vice-Chancellor Paul Curran joined Bournemouth University in 2005. A former NASA research scientist and current advisor to the European Space Agency (ESA), Dr. Curran is the youngest recipient of the Remote Sensing Society’s prestigious gold medal and received achievement awards from the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers), NASA, ESA and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. In 2007, the Queen approved the award of the Patron's Medal of the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) to Dr. Curran for his “international development of geographical science.”
The Marine Institute will hold a reception following the meeting.
