SUBJECT: PSA: Celebrate Memorial 2004 continues this week

Memorial University continues its Celebrate Memorial 2004 festivities with exciting events being held throughout the week. Some of the highlights include:
Monday, Oct. 25– Public talk with Dr. Davis Earle, Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, Observing the Sun from 2 Kilometres Underground. Join Dr. Earle for a look at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, its relevance and future directions. The talk will start at 7:30 p.m. in room E-2018A, Education building.
Tuesday, Oct. 26– Public Talk with Dr. Gwynne Dyer, Three Projects: Islamic Empire, Pax Americana or a World of Law. Join Dr. Gwynne Dyer for an interesting look at current ideological and geopolitical forces influencing the world's future. The talk will start at 7 p.m. in the Health Sciences Centre. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available from the Division of Lifelong Learning at 737-7979 or online at www.mun.ca/lifelonglearning.
Thursday, Oct. 28– The Celebrate Memorial Celebrity Sports Challenge is a fun celebrity basketball game that focuses on creating a connection between Memorial University and the community. Memorial University varsity team players suit up to take on their local celebrity counterparts in a fun-friendly and non-competitive game. Come on out for a great night of hilarious on-court antics and some jaw dropping moves by some of your favorite local celebrities! Community games start at 5 p.m. in the Field House, Westerland Road, followed by the celebrity sports challenge at 7 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 29– Public talk with Craig Kielburger, Leaders Today: A Morning with Craig Kielburger. Join international children’s rights advocate Craig Kileburger for an inspiring talk about leadership. Mr. Kielburger founded the organization Free the Children at the age of 12 and since then has been actively speaking out for children’s rights around the world. The talk will start at 10 a.m. in the Field House, Westerland Road. A limited number of tickets are available to the general public, at no cost. These tickets can be picked up at the Career Development office on the 4th floor of the University Centre, Arctic Avenue.
Celebrate Memorial is an annual celebration of Memorial’s connection to the community. What began in 1999 with the Festival of Anniversaries, highlighting Memorial’s 50th anniversary as a degree-granting institution, has today become a celebration of the contributions that Memorial’s students, faculty, staff and alumni make to Newfoundland and Labrador.
