Conversation Class Schedules

Conversation classes in the DLC are reserved for students enrolled in a language course in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Memorial University.

Winter 2024 conversation classes begin on January 15 and will continue until and including March 29 (French*) and April 5 for German, Russian and Spanish (excluding Winter break February 19 -23, inclusive).

*For French only: During the last week of conversation classes (March 25 - 29), in-person sessions will be capped at 20 students. Anyone wishing to attend an online or in- person class during that week will have to book with the respective monitor in advance.

See conversation class schedules:

  • French

  • Spanish

  • German

These sessions are carefully prepared by DLC monitors and may consist of a variety of activities in the target language, such as:

  • Conversational topics or activities from a chapter in your text
  • Final Interview practice
  • A subject you wish to talk about
  • The occasional game or two!

They are not drop-in sessions
Conversation classes are of the same length as a regular lecture period (50 minutes). Please make an effort to be on time and arrive at the beginning of the scheduled hour.

Practice Makes Perfect
Oral practice in a second language; i.e.speaking it regularly, is bound to help you master the grammatical rules that you have learned during class. The more you speak the target language, the better your proficiency should get! You want a better mark in the course? Come and practice!

Conversation classes are not designed as tutorial sessions
If you have specific grammar questions, please email the Help Centre in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
