Aquatic Research Cluster Instrumentation

Iatroscan MK-6

The Iatroscan is equipped with both FID and FPD detectors. The FID is used for determination of organic compounds while the FPD is used for the determination of phosphorous and sulphur selectively. Both the FID and FPD can be used simultaneously. The Iatroscan is routinely used to measure lipid classes.

Varian CP-3800 GC FID

Equipped with a CP-8400 auto sampler. The chromatograph has an injector that is temperature and pressure controlled. The injector type is split/splitless. This instrument is used for amino acid and sterol analyses.

Perkin-Elmer 2400 Series II CHN analyzer

The analyzer gives values for carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen in particulate samples. The analyzer is equipped with an auto sampler that will hold 60 samples.

Shimadzu TOC/TN analyzer

(Not Available)

Model TOC-VCPH and can measure total carbon (TC), inorganic carbon (IC), non-purgeable organic carbon (NPOC), purgeable organic carbon (POC), and total nitrogen (TN). The instrument is equipped with a 48 samples auto sampler.

Applied Biosystems® QuantStudio™ 6 Flex Real-Time PCR System

This instrument facilitates real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based applications and is equipped with a 384-well block. Within ARC, it is primarily used for transcript expression analyses [real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR)]. qPCR assays can be custom-designed for SYBR® Green I dye or TaqMan® probe based chemistries.
