Dr. Dennis Peters, P.Eng., Ph.D., FEC, SMIEEE
Interim Associate Vice-President (Academic)

Dr. Dennis Peters is the interim associate vice-president (academic) at Memorial University and a professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, where he has been a faculty member since 1998. With extensive experience in academic leadership, Dr. Peters has served as associate dean (undergraduate), head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and acting dean.

In his current role, Dr. Peters provides strategic leadership across multiple academic and administrative areas, including overseeing the university’s continuing education portfolio. He works closely with deans and senior academic leaders to support teaching, research, and community engagement, ensuring alignment with the university’s strategic priorities. He is committed to enhancing access to lifelong learning and promoting educational excellence across Memorial.

Dr. Peters earned his B.Eng. (Electrical) from Memorial University in 1990, followed by his M.Eng. (Electrical & Computer) and Ph.D. (Electrical & Computer Engineering) from McMaster University. His research focuses on the application of machine learning techniques to a range of industries, including marine operations and oilfield characterization. He also specializes in the design and verification of software and computer systems, with an emphasis on high-performance computing, simulation, real-time applications, and distributed processing.

He is an active contributor to the professional engineering community in Canada, having served as chair of the Board of Directors of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) and the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (CEQB). He is also a senior member of IEEE and a Fellow of Engineers Canada.

Outside of his academic and professional commitments, Dr. Peters enjoys sailing around the beautiful bays of Newfoundland.

Charlene Connors
Program Developer (Grenfell Campus)

Charlene Connors is a Program Developer at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, with over eight years of experience designing and managing professional development and community education programs. Her work spans strategic planning, marketing, communications, and event coordination. Previously, she served as a Student Recruitment Officer at Grenfell Campus, leading international and domestic recruitment initiatives. She has volunteered with several organizations such as MADD Canada, local food bank, and served as a municipal councillor from 2013-2020. Charlene holds a Bachelor of Science from Memorial University, and has completed various leadership and communications training programs.
