Join the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), along with various academic units, for our “Explore Graduate Studies at Memorial University” event taking place from Monday, October 23, 2023 to Thursday, October 26, 2023. We will be offering a series of in-person and virtual information sessions hosted by SGS staff and various academic units.

Day 1 - Monday, October 23, 2023

Session 1: Is Grad School Right for You?

Are you curious about graduate school or wondering how an advanced degree could be rewarding? Or are you simply interested to know about options after a bachelor’s degree? Explore the ins and outs of graduate studies with us.

Session 2: Grad Programs in Education

Discover the various programs available, and how a graduate degree in education can impact your personal and professional development. Whether you are a first-year undergraduate student, or finishing up your undergraduate degree, this session will have something for you. 

Panelist: Tina Hunt - Graduate Administrative Staff, Faculty of Education

This hybrid event welcomes attendees both in-person and online, although we highly encourage on-site participation to fully engage with the panelist and fellow attendees.

Session 3: Funding, Scholarships, and Financial Aid for Grad School

As a research-intensive institution, Memorial University offers competitive funding packages to academically eligible graduate students, both Canadian and international. Please join us in this webinar on the types of funding packages and scholarships offered to graduate students and the application process.

Session 5 - II: Grad Program at the Fisheries and Marine Institute

As a campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland, the Fisheries and Marine Institute is Canada’s most comprehensive centre for education, training, applied research and industrial support for the ocean industries. Marine Institute consists of three Schools – the School of Fisheries, the School of Maritime Studies and the School of Ocean Technology – and within these Schools are a number of specialized centres and units which lead, both nationally and internationally, in applied research, technology transfer and industry training.

Researchers of the Fisheries and Marine Institute are leaders in the ocean and maritime sectors. From collaborating with engineers, social scientists, policy experts, economists and other industry leaders, to publishing peer-reviewed journals and informing policy decisions, our team of researchers and scientists are well-respected industry professionals whose work impacts our understanding of the ocean that surrounds us.

Session 6: Three Steps to Get Admitted into Grad Programs at Memorial

This presentation will cover reasons you might consider going to graduate school, different program options, general admission requirements for graduate programs, and specific advice to increase your chances at admission. There will also be a Q&A period for you to ask questions about applying for admission.
