Direct

Master’s degree with thesis, in a related discipline from a university of recognized standing

Or

Master’s degree without thesis, in a related discipline from a university of recognized standing, and evidence of thesis-equivalent research experience

Satisfactory completion of an undergraduate statistics course

Demonstration of English proficiency to Memorial University requirements:

• the completion of an undergraduate degree at a recognized university where the language of instruction is English

or

• the possession of satisfactory English testing scores.

Satisfactory appraisals from two referees

Written confirmation of acceptance by an eligible supervisor (including stipend support for four years, if applying for full time study).

For Community Health streams only

Satisfactory completion of MED6220, MED6270, MED6280 (or courses judged to be equivalent by the Admissions Committee). If this requirement is not met, these courses may be taken concurrently with the required degree stream courses, adding 9 credit hours.

Admission to the doctoral program is competitive and not all qualifying students are admitted to the program. The Division of Community Health and Humanities reserves the right to refuse admission to any applicant.

Transfer from MSc

Students with satisfactory academic performance in the first two semesters of the MSc Med (Clinical Epidemiology), MSc Med (Community Health) may transfer to the corresponding PhD program. Students with satisfactory performance in the first two semesters of the Master of Applied Health Services Research (thesis stream) may transfer to either PhD program.

Transfer is subject to written confirmation of acceptance by an eligible supervisor (including stipend support for three years, if applying for full time study).
