SUBJECT: PSA: Marcus French rodney on display at Queen Elizabeth II Library

The Queen Elizabeth II Library is hosting the public lecture, Looking Back, Looking Forward: Building the Marcus French Rodney on Tuesday, May 15.

The punt is modelled on a boat originally designed and built by Marcus French of Winterton, Trinity Bay. 
 
Panellists will discuss a unique partnership between the Wooden Boat Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador and Memorial’s Faculty of Education. The result of the project, a 16-foot, round-bottomed punt, will be on display in the lobby.
 
Panel members include Jerome Canning, master boat builder; Jim Dempsey, president, Wooden Boat Museum of N.L.; Dr. David Gill, professor, Faculty of Education; and Catherine Lawton, head of public services, Dr. C.R. Barrett Library.
 
The event takes place on Tuesday, May 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. Parking is available in area 18, located next to the Queen Elizabeth II Library on the St. John’s campus.

The event is part of Memorial University Libraries’ ongoing public engagement performance series, Check It Out! and is supported by the Public Engagement Accelerator Fund.
