SUBJECT: Memorial to host international business competition

DATE: February 17, 2011

The Faculty of Business Administration is set to welcome students and coaches from all over the world when Memorial hosts the Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) Case Competition Feb.19-26, 2011.
Students and faculty from nine schools representing several different countries will be on the St. John’s campus for the competition, in which student teams will analyze business case studies and present their results to a team of judges from the local business community.
Memorial hosted the NIBS competition in 1997 and 2004, and has a strong record of success in the competition. Last year, in Kolding, Denmark, the team placed second, and in 2009 Memorial’s team captured the gold medal. “NIBS is a great opportunity for our students to test their skills and network with students from around the world,” said Peggy Coady, coach of the 2011 team and organizer of the 2011 competition. “By hosting the competition, more of our students can be involved and we have the opportunity to showcase Memorial.”
Dr. Wilfred Zerbe, dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, said he is delighted to host the competition.
“Hosting NIBS is an honour and we want to make the week as memorable as possible for all attendees,” declared Dr. Zerbe. “Events like this offer a unique opportunity for cross-cultural learning, meaningful dialogue and spirited competition. I have no doubt that it will be a valuable experience for our students as well as for the student competitors from around the world.”
Memorial has participated in NIBS competition since its inception in 1996 and has consistently placed in the top three; with five first place finishes, three second place finishes and two third place finishes since 1996.
