SUBJECT: Public still has plenty of time to help identify research opportunities

DATE: May 3, 2010

Memorial University is encouraging members of the public interested in helping identify research opportunities of strategic importance to the province to complete a short online survey.
The university has been gathering input, thoughts and feedback from key stakeholders, as well as members of the wider community, since February.
A number of on-campus workshops, as well as public consultations, have taken place over the past number of weeks.
The survey opened in February and is set to close next Monday, May 10.
“This entire consultation process has been about collecting feedback, listening to members of the public and our university community, and taking note of research opportunities key to not just Memorial but also our entire province,” said Dr. Ray Gosine, vice-president (research) pro tempore. “We want to ensure those with a vested interest in that research have a chance to share their views with us. This survey is a great way for folks – whether they are formally connected with the university or simply just want to see Memorial pursue a research opportunity that’s important to them – to tell us their ideas.”
That feedback will help guide the development of a new research plan at Memorial which will support future growth in research at the university, said Dr. Gosine.
The short survey can be found online at www.mun.ca/research/plan/.
