The Canadian Forces and the Marine Institute’s Safety and Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre will celebrate on Friday as 19 military firefighters and aircraft rescue personnel will be welcomed into the ranks of the Canadian Forces Firefighters. The Canadian Forces Firefighting School will hold its formal certificate awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m., Oct. 17, at the Stephenville Military Armories in Stephenville.
Robert Escott, associate director with the Marine Institute’s Offshore Safety and Survival Centre (OSSC) will address the graduates. The graduating class comes from the Canadian Forces Base Borden.
In March the SERT Centre welcomed the trainees. Young men and women from all over Canada converged on the centre to complete a 30-week program consisting of the Marine Institute’s basic firefighting modules with the addition of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) program. This program was customized to meet the needs of the DND.
The media is invited to attend the ceremony and speak with military representatives and graduates.
