REF NO.: 182

SUBJECT: Roaming Librarians - bringing information to the people

DATE: February 1, 2005

The Queen Elizabeth II Library is extending its reference services across the parkway to the faculties of Business Administration and Engineering and Applied Science, and to the departments of Earth Science and Computer Science. This new initiative is part of the library’s plan to tap into the power of wireless technology and bring information services right to the people who need them.

During this nine-week pilot project, starting Feb. 1 and running until April 7, 2005, a librarian will be available for consultation with students and faculty. With the help of wireless access and a portable laptop, the Roaming Librarian will be able to answer questions and help locate materials for those doing research for papers and projects.

The times and locations of this new service, commencing today, will be as follows:

  • Business Building 1st floor Atrium – Tuesday 12-2 p.m.
  • S.J. Carew Building 1st floor, outside the Engineering Cafeteria – Wednesday 12-2 p.m.
  • Alexander Murray Building 4th floor Atrium – Thursday 10-12 p.m.
